Set a computer password
To improve your security, we are checking all computers for any user account not protected with a password. Here’s how to set one.

How to set a password for your computer

Restart your computer
Start with a fresh restart before making changes.

Open Settings
Click the Start button and search for Settings, then select Settings.

Go to Accounts
Select Accounts from the Settings menu.

Sign-in options
Select Sign-in options from the left menu.

Under Password, select Change
If you get asked to enter your current password, leave it blank.

Enter and confirm your new password
Please make sure you have recorded your password in a password manager like LastPass.

Restart your computer
Restart to apply the new password.

Log back in
Log back into your computer using your new password.

Test your applications
Test applications like Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams to make sure everything is working correctly.
Alternative method: Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. Under Password, select Change and follow the directions.
